Deborah L. Cartee, RDH, MS

Deborah CarteeMs. Deborah L. Cartee, RDH, MS is Assistant Professor, Division Chief, and Junior Clinical Coordinator in the Division of Dental Hygiene at the University of Maryland, School of Dentistry (UMB, SOD). She earned her M.S. in Management (Health Care Administration Track) at the University of Maryland, University College, B.S. degree in dental hygiene at the UMB, SOD, and A.A degree in dental hygiene at Baltimore City Community College (BCCC). She has been voted UMB Junior Dental Hygiene Class Teacher of the Year, in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 & 2015.

Ms. Cartee is very involved in her professional organization, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA). She is the current Maryland State Educators Network Representative, Student American Dental Hygienists’ Association (SADHA) advisor, ADHA Continuing education Peer Review Panel, and Maryland Delegation Chair to the ADHA. Her past leadership roles have included: component and state president, legislative chair, national teller, and national graduate poster judge.

Ms. Cartee has worked tirelessly to lobby and provide written and verbal testimony which led to the successful passage of legislation influencing the dental hygiene scope of practice in Maryland, such as: allowing dental hygienists to administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide, and, improving access to care by changing state statues to allow dental hygienists to provide dental screenings without supervision at health fairs, and providing direct access care to patients in long term care facilities. Ms. Cartee has authored articles in numerous dental hygiene magazines. She has worked on numerous clinical research projects, and presented scientific posters. She was awarded the Maryland Dental Hygienists’ Association (MDHA) “Symbol of Excellence” award in 2012.
