The Federal Government Shutdown
As a result of the Trump Administration’s government shutdown, Marylanders are receiving mixed messages about SNAP benefits.
The federal government stopped funding SNAP benefits on November 1st. On Friday, October 31, 2025, a federal District Court ruled that the federal government must at least partially fund SNAP using contingency funds. Despite this ruling, no federal funds have been released to Maryland as of today.
This is a developing situation. As soon as any SNAP benefits become available, we will get funds to Maryland families through their Maryland Independence EBT cards.
We will continue to share information as we learn more. Please continue to keep your information up to date, check your eligibility, and apply for help at MarylandBenefits.gov.
