Adult Protective Services (APS)

The purpose of the program is to prevent or remedy the abuse, neglect, self-neglect, or exploitation (sexual or financial) of vulnerable adults who are unable to protect their own interests. Signs of abuse or neglect include: cuts, wounds, bruises or welts, burns, and appearing suddenly unkempt, dirty, and smelly. Signs of financial exploitation include: unusual bank account activity, a change in spending habits, a signature on checks that do not match, and unpaid bills.
If you suspect someone is at risk of abuse, neglect, self-neglect, or exploitation (sexual or financial), make a report to your Local Department of Social Services. If you wish to make the report anonymously, your confidentiality will be protected. If you suspect that someone is in danger of immediate harm, call 911.
