IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR SNAP RECIPIENTS IN BALTIMORE CITY

Time Limit Rules for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) have resumed for Baltimore City. If you don’t follow these rules, your SNAP benefits may decrease or end. To continue receiving SNAP benefits without interruption, all SNAP recipients in Baltimore City who are not exempt must meet the following program work requirements:
- Work at least 80 hours a month. Work can be for pay, for goods or services (for something other than money), unpaid, or as a volunteer; or
- Participate in a work program for at least 80 hours a month. A work program could be SNAP Employment and Training or another federal, state, or local work program; or
- Participate in a combination of work and work program hours for a total of at least 80 hours a month; or
- Participate in workfare for the number of hours assigned to you each month (the number of hours will depend on the amount of your SNAP benefit).
- Are under 18 or age 65+
- Are pregnant
- Have a mental or physical condition that makes it hard to work
- Live with a child under age 14
- Participate in a drug or alcohol treatment program
- Receiving Temporary Cash Assistance or Unemployment Insurance or have applied and are following UI rules
- Qualify under the federal definition of Indian, Urban Indian, or California Indian
As of Nov. 1, 2025, the following groups are no longer automatically exempt and may now need to meet work requirements:
- Adults between the ages of 55 and 64;
- Adults who have children age 14 to 17 living in their home;
- Veterans;
- Young adults who aged out of out-of-home care under age 24; and
- People who are unhoused.
