Low Income Workgroup Meeting Agenda/Minutes
In June 2021, The Low Income Utility Assistance Work Group was formed by the General Assembly to study current systems available to low-income electric and natural gas customers in Maryland. The workgroup also studies forms used by customers and communication efforts to low-income households. The workgroup consists of State, local, and private agencies, including the Maryland Office of Home Energy Programs. The Work Group’s mission is to extend and enhance existing programs by capturing several viewpoints from a variety of different Stakeholders.
The Workgroup will submit a final report of their study which will include findings and recommendations for the purposes of making legislative and regulatory changes. The report will also consist of other recommended changes, such as, form updates, increased communication efforts and enhanced customer service for low-income households. The final report of study will be submitted to the Senate Finance Committee and the House Economic Matters Committee on or before January 1, 2024.
